Multi-Vitamin / Multi-Mineral
Every human being needs vitamins and minerals for the thousands of chemical reactions which occur in the body every minute. Without sufficient quantities of these essential nutrients the body struggles to maintain optimal health. These struggles sooner or later cause the body to breakdown, let down its guard, and ultimately fail us.
Let’s envision the human body as an automobile. Would you allow your car to run out of transmission fluid? Brake fluid? Windshield washer fluid? Oil? Petrol? If you do, you know right away your car isn’t working as it should and you fill up the required fluids. Considering the human body is simply a complex vehicle, why do we let ourselves live without the essential pieces we need to live optimally?
Since most diets do not contain enough vegetables and fruits, and the vegetables and fruits available today are significantly less nutrient dense than 50 years ago, should we not be taking something? Yes!
Multi-vitamin/multi-mineral products are the most commonly used nutritional supplements worldwide! Are you using one? Why not? It can be as simple as taking one with breakfast, to as complicated as taking multiple smaller doses daily. It is up to the user, but there is definitely a multi-vitamin/mineral out there for everyone!

Essential Fat: Omega 3
Fish Oil capsules are one of the purest sources Omega 3 available. When looking for Fish Oil supplements the active ingredients to watch out for are: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
This is probably easiest to explain by quoting a study from the Institute of Human Nutrition, School of Medecine, University of Southampton, UK.
“...very long chain omega-3 fatty acids play a role in achieving optimal health and in protection against disease. Long chain omega-3 fatty acids protect against cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and might be beneficial in rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel diseases, childhood learning, and behaviour, and adult psychiatric and neurodegenerative illnesses. DHA has an important structural role in the eye and brain, and its supply early in life is known to be of vital importance. On the basis of the recognized health improvements brought about by long chain omega-3 fatty acids, recommendations have been made to increase their intake.”
Inability to consume enough quality Omega 3 (necessary for optimal cardiovascular health) can have long-term negative health effects.
Every person can, and probably should, use a quality Fish Oil supplement. Also, of course, people should try and eat more quality fish on a weekly basis.
There is no need to cycle Fish Oil. Try and get at least 3 grams split into 3 separate doses each day.

Whey Protein
Most people assume that protein powder is just for people who exercise a tonne and want big muscles, but even people who do not exercise can benefit from adding a protein supplement to their diet. This would be to balance out their daily food intake, help regulate blood sugar levels, and ensure they are providing their system with these crucial nutrients.
The biggest fault in modern day diets is: lack. We lack in too many nutritional areas and consume way too much in poor nutritional areas. Protein is the most overlooked food section, while carbohydrates and fats are the most over-consumed! Since meat isn’t always readily available, a whey protein shake, or smoothie with whey or soy protein added to it can get a person on the right nutritional track.
Start by figuring out how much protein you eat in a day. Record your meat and dairy intake for 3 days. This will give you an idea of how much protein you are getting, and whether they are quality sources or not. Ham, Cheese (except Cottage Cheese), and Grains are not the best possible sources of protein so do not rely on these!
After you have an idea of how much you currently eat, then you can see where you are lacking and add a protein supplement to fill in the gaps. There are numerous high protein, low carbohydrate, low fat protein supplements to choose from to add to your diet.

Additonal Greens: Spirullina, Barley Grass
The reason these extra “greens” supplements are on the list is due to the lack of quality vegetables eaten on a daily basis today. “Greens” help to increase the bodies PH levels. This is important in moving the body out of an acidic state to an alkaline state.
Things such as stress, high sugar intake, and even high meat protein intake all cause our body to become acidic. Being in an acidic state makes it harder to lose fat, gain muscle, sleep well, and much much more. Since protein is a key to a balanced diet, additional “greens” must be eaten along with the high protein intake to balance out the acidic with the alkaline.
By getting the body into an alkaline state we can then more easily burn fat as calories, process our food better, hopefully sleep better and improve our long-term health by supporting the immune system. Also, free radicals do not survive as well in an alkaline state so additional “greens” can be crucial for endurance athletes, heavy weight trainers, and sport athletes.
Take a good look at your daily food intake and current supplement intake and add in these 4 elements where needed.
